It is a large fruit tree, capable of growing to a height of 30 metres (100 feet). There are two distinct genetic populations in modern mangoes – the “Indian type” and the “Southeast Asian type”.

Kottukonam/ Mangifera Indica is a beautiful, aromatic, and sweet mango variety from Kerala native to the districts of Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. It received the name as a legacy after the name of the place, Kotturkonam, bordering Tamilnadu where it originated. Fruit is reddish-orange on the inside and outside when ripe, and high in fiber, but once eaten, the taste, aroma, and flavor remain on the tongue.
